2. Flower Essence Pick of the Month

Wild Mint (mentha canadensis)

by Lesley Bonisteel

Need some support in focus? Wild mint may just be the essence you are looking for. I recently spoke to someone who had just taken a meditation class. The inability to focus was her biggest obstacle. When she tried Wild Mint, meditation was much easier for her. Wild mint is indicated for strong focus and ability to hold intention steady.

There are times when Wild Mint is an essential essence in my traveling kit. In any situation, especially in changing environments, Wild Mint will enable us to create harmony. You may want to try this essence if you are planning any trips this summer.

Wild Mint is the only native mint plant. It is found in damp soil all over Canada and the northern United States. This perennial flowers tiny white or pale lilac clusters from June to October. A tea from the leaves is commonly made and used for sore throats, headaches and colds.

If you have any question about the Wild Mint Essence or any other Clear Path Essence feel free to contact us at info@clearpathessences.com.

3. Sound Therapy

by Darlene Zagata

Does the sound of the ocean waves bring calm your soul? Do the sounds of the birds singing early in the morning bring a smile to your face? Well you have just experienced sound therapy, and didn't even know it....

It is well known that certain sounds such as the ocean, whale sounds and some musical tones can have a calm, soothing affect. But what may not be so well known is that some sounds actually produce stress.

Studies in sound therapy show that vibrations resonate on nerve endings, which can produce a variety of stress-related conditions. Some physician's claim that sound has even been found to have a connection to violent behavior. Recent studies also indicate that sounds such as traffic noise, loud voices, slamming doors and certain types of music cause increased stress levels.

When the body suffers from stress, the heart rate increases, and blood pressure raises, muscles tense and breathing becomes rapid. Some people are affected by sound and various stress triggers more than others. These people are described as Type A personalities. Type A individuals are usually work-a-holics and perfectionists. They are more prone to suffer from stress-related illnesses. Headaches, depression and intestinal disorders such as ulcers are more likely to be found in Type A individuals. Many Type A personalities suffer from hypertension and are more susceptible to stroke or heart disease.

It is imperative that people who fall into this category learn to recognize their stress triggers and take action toward management of their stress levels. It is much easier to tell someone to relax than for a person to do so. But if stress is adversely affecting your health, you need to take every measure possible to relax. Do whatever you like to do to relax and try to make the time to relax as often as you can.

Highly stressed individuals may want to try sound therapy. Many people have been successfully treated for a variety of ailments including allergies, depression and even chronic pain by using sound therapy. There are many tapes to choose from which can be beneficial in using sound therapy at home. Many practitioners of sound therapy choose to combine deep breathing meditation, massage and aromatherapy into their alternative healing methods and to aid in stress reduction. You may also consult a sound therapist who can guide you in stress management and the uses of sound therapy in conjunction with other techniques.

Sound therapy, laser techniques and many other alternative healing methods are in the forefront of the medical community. Although many of these techniques are already firmly established, others are still in the experimental stages. Sound therapy is definitely proving to be beneficial in stress management as well as other aspects of healing.

So the next time noise starts to get to you, don't let it stress you out. Try to find a few moments of quiet time.

4. Your Questions Answered

Q: Do I have to use the affirmations when I use the essences. Affirmations feel like I'm lying.

A: . Using the affirmations corresponding to each Clear Path Essence is another way to reinforce the subtle message of the flowers. If affirmations feel untrue to you, remember they are tools of creation, not methods of communication. We don't use affirmations when we are having a conversation with someone but if you want to create a new reality, affirmations, visualization, and meditative thoughts are very powerful.

5. Reader's Input:

The following was submitted by newsletter subscriber Pat Hamilton from Saskatchewan, Canada

In 2001 the Government of Canada approved these genetically modified crops for food use: canola, corn, cottonseed, flax, potato, soybean, tomato, wheat, sugar beet and squash.

Biotechnology is the method used in genetically modifying our food. This is done to make plants pest resistant, pesticide resistant, or to splice in genes that create vitamins that the food doesn't contain. GMOs (genetically modified organisms) have been debated over the last few years. Critics have called these products "frankenfoods" while the scientists of the biotechnology firms say that this technology is safe. GMOs have been removed from grocery shelves throughout Europe, Japan, Russia, and Australia. In Canada and the United States foods containing genetically modified ingredients are sold without being labeled as such.

Is enough known about genetic engineering to ensure that genetically modified foods are safe for consumption? Any comments?

What do you think? Email newsletter@clearpathessences.com and we'll print your opinion to share with our readers.

Greenpeace has an interesting web site for information on genetically engineered food. They have an "online shopping list" were you can find foods that have no GMO ingredients. There is lots of interesting readings and a free newsletter. www.truefoodnow.org
